Susanna Pershern, Photographer (b. 1971, American)
Susanna Pershern is an underwater photographer for the Submerged Resources Center of the United States National Park Service. Pershern trained in the traditional photographic processes and several alternative photographic processes at Rockport College, Rockport, ME, (now, Maine Media College). She has worked in the alternative photographic processes for the past decade, letting her professional work inform her personal work, and vice versa. As Curator of the Virgin Islands National Park, she focused on bringing archival images to the public via historic photographic processes such as platinum/palladium and the cyanotype. Currently, as an underwater photographer, her work is moving more in the direction of the gum bichromate process in order to capture the mood and beauty of the underwater world.
